5th October 2009 - Due to the SDA Virus circulating throught the fancy at present, and as there were only seven in this litter, they have all remained with me.
Tyburn has caught up completely with his siblings in weight, and is a beautiful lad. Unfortunately the games of 'drag by the tail' in the nest have left him with a tail kink, meaning he won't do as well in the variety classes as he should have done. He does also have a little white on one hand. Wandle is doing nicely as a variety rat, none of them are succeeding in pet classes at present as they're too wriggly. Moselle, Thames and Brent are all patchy in colour, but that may change with time as cinnamons and minks are notorious for patchy moults. Effra is a little dark for the agouti class, and a little wriggly for pets. Very friendly though. Ravensbourne may do well in pets, but unfortunately had some bite marks at the time of the recent show.
These rats have all remained wonderfully cheeky and friendly. The boys live with three older boys, now over two years old, and have accepted their grandad Diggory as alpha so are fairly stress free. The girls accepted Maisy, a young rescue kitten, into their group at around seven weeks old, and have recently moved in with a group of three rescue girls and my eldest boy, Chester. Chester is coming up to three and feeling his age, so stays out of any cage politics, and the older does are all slowing down a little, so Wandle seems to have taken over as alpha.
Most neophilic girls are Wandle and Effra, and boys are Tyburn and Ravensbourne.
Their grandad Diggory is still fit and healthy, I don't have recent updates of their other grandparents who aren't mine. All other relatives here are well, two uncles with a friend who were born in July 2008 have died due to a nasty bug causing repeated abscesses in their cage group.
12th October 2009 - I've heard from the breeder of the babies' grandma, Kitty, and she and her two siblings are well. Another of the babies' uncles has died, Avon who was living with me. I need to consider where this leaves me as regards breeding down the line, as I can't tell right now if it is a huge coincidence or if something else is going on.
18th November 2009 - Because it's far from clear cut whether the deaths were from inherent problems or not, I'm going to continue the line and keep a close eye on it, but also begin a second line either to use as an outcross or replacement line in the future.
