Kitty's Babies, Day 2 (Sunday 27th July, 2008)

<<Previous | Index | Next >>

Morning: 44 hours old

Their ears are beginning to unflatten and unstick at the top. I can see the beginnings of a blaze on one little boy, and another one has a head spot.

Kitty is building a second nest in the hammock box. I need to keep a close eye to make sure she doesn't move the babies down there. Here's a video of her sharing (MY) breakfast with Glitter and taking bedding down to the new nest.

Kitty's original nest is getting bigger and better as time goes on. It began as a small bare area of cage base when the kits were born, but she's been adding to it all the time and it's now really impressive, with tissue to cover the babies when she leaves them.

They obviously think I didn't give them enough extra food, as they seemed quite keen to eat my breakfast.

Evening: 55 hours old

The markings are showing up more now. We have three blazed kits and three head spot kits. The two palest are blazed, so maybe they're just bleached out a bit by the Essex gene? Have to wait and see.
