Kitty's Babies, Day 1 (Saturday 26th July 2008)

Morning: 20 hours old

Kitty had a good run round with her mum, Glitter, today while we had a good look at the babies. I think we have five boys and seven girls, but I'm a newbie at sexing so I may be wrong. The litter weighs 92 grams in total, which makes them an average of 8.5 grams each. They already have very fine little whiskers, and their nails are just beginning to grow.

Kitty has now built an enormous nest around the babies, and is using kitchen towel to cover the babies up when she leaves them. She's having plenty of high protein food in addition to her normal mix, to make sure she has everything she needs to feed the babies well. Her favourite seems to be egg food with finely chopped tuna in it, made up with warm Lactol. Smelly!
