Ratty Corner

Sophie Snowflake

Sophie

Gender: doe

Variety: pink eyed white

Born: April 2006?

Died: 1st May 2008

Origin: rehomed at 7? months old (18th November 2006).

Littermates: possibly Lucy - came as a pair at 7 months old.

Health: very fit and active, a little thin.
Nov 2007 - slight wheeze on occasion.
20th January 2008 - Losing weight and wheezing. Hint of a head tilt, though I may be imagining it.
21st January 2008 - Definite head tilt, very crackly chest. Synulox and diuretic. Vet's plan is to hit the chest infection first and worry about the head tilt afterwards.
22nd January 2008 - Injection of 0.03ml Convenia (antibiotic). Return in one week if OK, otherwise go back sooner.
29th January 2008 - Much better, regaining weight. 2nd injection of Convenia.
5th February 2008 - Clear chest. Slight head tilt remaining.
12th February 2008 - Slightly wheezy. Injection of Convenia.
19th February 2008 - 4th injection.
27th February 2008 - 5th injection.
Sophie is having a break from the injections, and has not got any wheezier although she has lost weight.
20th March 2008 - Sophie is losing interest in food and spends playtime lying in my hands being stroked. There's no weight to her any more.
2nd April 2008 - Losing weight daily. Still full of life though.
16th April 2008 - Sophie's weight seems to have dropped to the point where it matches her tiny food intake, so she's still going. I really didn't expect her to still be around by now.
1st May 2008 - Struggling to breathe. PTS.

Temperament: Sophie has matured wonderfully from a hand-shy and nervous rehome to a gentle and affectionate lady.

About Sophie

Sophie came to Ratty Corner with Lucy when she was about 7 months old because her mummy had a human baby and didn't have time for them both any longer. She used to be called Salt, but I think she looks more like a Sophie because she reminds me of the little girl in the BFG story. I call her Sophie Snowflake because she's snow white, and she trims her own nails so she feels light and gentle to hold.

Sophie has a very curly tail because she spends so much time on the wheel. She's already got the biggest sort of wheel, so I can't make it bigger. Sophie also has very messy fur on her back because her cagemate Thisbe likes to groom her fur out. She's turning into a sweet little old lady, and enjoys a bowl of soft food along with Pyramus in the evenings. She comes running to the door when she hears me open it, and relaxes in my hand when I hold her.
