This graph shows the lifespans given in my 'Past Rats' survey. I suspect that the peaks at six month intervals are due to rounding when estimating ages. The average lifespan seems to come in at just under two years.
These lifespans are reported by owners, so please keep in mind that early deaths of pet shop rats and potential rescues will not be recorded. This will probably distort the results.
