Hammocks Make Good Nests (Friday 3rd October 2008)

But they take up so much space!

Rat Sit Boys (Friday 10th October 2008)

The rat sit pair went home, but not completely resolved. They went in two different carriers to two different cages and their mum is having a confidence crisis in them ever going back together. I think all they really need is time.

MRC Cup Show

This was last Saturday. I was so chuffed with Arrow, as she not only won the cup for best Essex (not hard as I entered all the Essex) but she won the Best Marked cup too. Grace got the 'Kidnapped' award from the varieties judge, which I take as a great compliment to her.

Rescues and Rehomes

I'm struggling not to take in loads of rehomes at the moment. I'd already agreed to take two 18 month old girls, then had an email about six 8 month old girls in their own cage. I don't physically have the space for them at the moment. Then there's a lone boy looking for a home, but I'd probably be looking at neutering if I took him in, we're fully stretched financially and I think he has somewhere to go. Then there's possibly the neutered half of my rat sit boys if everything doesn't work out. Maybe he could go in with the 18 month old girls?

Roll on Hodge

Got to share this. Hodge was on the table this evening and discovered a roll of parcel tape. (I'd been sealing the hole which had mysteriously appeared in the new bag of Alpha Herbal.) Hodge managed to flip the roll upright, and walked through the hole. As he is a little pear-shaped, the roll wedged around his middle, leaving him doing a strange splay-footed waddle around the table.

After a short time he managed to walk out of it, but then turned round and came back the same way, through the roll. This time he began to get annoyed, doing a little fooffy dance and eventually succeeding in wiping the roll off.

I'm afraid I was no help at all, in fact I was completely helpless by this point.

Rehomes (Monday 13th October 2008)

The two girls have arrived, and also the neutered rat sit boy, who had another big fight with his brother and scared their mum. I'm hoping they'll all go together. Their first intro was very promising.

Intros Continue (Wednesday 15th October 2008)

The three rehomes, Agnes, Edie and Luey, have met for the fourth time and it's all looking really promising. I'm hoping I can get them all in together at the weekend.

All In Together (Thursday 16th October 2008)

Luey and the girls were getting on so well this evening that it seemed a shame to split them up again, so I left them in together in a newly set up cage. They're not exactly best buddies, but they aren't fighting.

Agnes and Luey

Lovely Group (Saturday 18th October 2008)

Luey, Agnes and Edie are getting along wonderfully and show the makings of a really lovely group of rats. I'm overflowing with happiness for them, especially Luey as he is no longer alone.

Cally's Lump (Monday 27th October 2008)

I found a throat abscess on Caliadne yesterday. The fourth throat abscess in that cage, and the second for Cally. Someone in that cage definitely has vampire tendencies! So we pottered off up to the vets with her, and got her booked in for cleaning up and flushing out tomorrow. That was at six o'clock. At 7.30pm I looked across at her as she starfished on the side of the cage and realised it was completely gone. Just a circle of healthy pink flesh. Bless the little minx, that has saved us a lot of messing about and a fair bit of cash.

Agnes's Bald Patches

Well Agnes's barbered patches seem to be growing their hair back. The big patch on her back is growing back from the centre outwards, so there's now a bald ring. I imagine that's the order she cropped it in to begin with, but it does look a little strange.

Chloe's Garden

The rats have a herb garden which they periodically have to destroy. I then re-seed it and stick it back on the windowsill for a couple of months, and it grows back good as new. Chloe made quite a comprehensive job of destroying it this evening (with a little help from her friends)
