Midlands Rat Club Show (3rd February)

I meant to get up at seven today. But I wouldn't listen so it was closer to a quarter past. Then I had to go get petrol and visit the cash machine. Which meant that by the time I got to the show the tables were all set out! I'll have to try that again.

I wanted to get there reasonably early as I'm caretaking the physical side of the publicity role while the publicity officer is in China for two years. Also I had some of the kitchen stuff - important stuff like coffee and teabags, and I'm treasurer so I had the cash floats for everything.

Never mind. Got all set up. Everything went OK. Knackered now. Brought home more stuff to store than I have room for. Pretty standard really. It's not as much fun when you don't take rats with you, but with Sophie and Thisbe being wheezy, and possible Pickle and Chester getting chesty too, I didn't feel I could take anyone along.

Kittens (5th February)

Wow! Two of my breeding does will be born any day! Either black or mink, and either dumbo or dumbo carrier.

Jackpot (9th February)

Well I didn't win the £95 million Euromillions jackpot, but something almost as good. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? The litter I'm hoping to have two does from were born yesterday, and the litter I'm hoping to have one from were born today.

I just need to keep fingers crossed now that there are some does in the litters.

Sophie's Head Tilt (15th February)

Sophie's head tilt is barely noticeable now. It's not gone, but she seems to be walking with her feet further apart to stabilise herself, and only rolls when she's knocked off balance. She looks like a spritely old lady.

Nursing Cage (17th February)

I've bought a Ferplast Mary on eBay for £12 plus £6 postage. Feeling quite pleased with that, as the lowest I've seen them before is £35. It is a second - there's a chip on one corner, but I think we can live with that. I may swap the base though - I believe the Freddy base fits them, and I have one I bought second hand to cut holes in to make a Furet Plus/Freddy tower, so I can use the faulty base for the tower and the good base for the Mary.

Kittens

I don't know if I have the kittens I wanted yet. It depends how many doe kittens have been born, and what colour they are or carry.

Chumble (19th February)

He's getting very assertive, to put it kindly. There now seems to be one food bowl belonging to Chumble, and one belonging to the other five boys. No wonder he's putting on weight so fast. My biggest worry is Pringle, who doesn't seem to be venturing out to eat very much.

Chumble again (21st February)

I don't know what to think. Chums was curled up in the hammock with the others when I got home from work. I'd been turning the idea of getting him neutered round in my head during the walk home, but maybe there's a chance after all. He hasn't actually injured any of the others, just intimidated them.

Sorry Chumble. I think you've had it. Chumble was a right pain this evening. He took a chunk out of Bramble and bit Pringle's tail. He's been a huffy puffy monster all evening. To cap it all, I weighed them all and while Chumble has gained almost 25 grams in the past week, four of the other boys have lost weight.

Booked in (22nd February)

Chumble's on probation. I have him booked in at the vets for next Tuesday. I think he may have heard me on the phone though, because he was much better at playtime this evening. I didn't have to put him home early, then I let the others go home to get some of the food and kept Chums out for an extra 15 minutes. He's gained 30grams in the past week, while his cagemates have lost up to 20 grams each! He's swaggering round like a ratty John Wayne.
