Piratty's had such a good week! Because he's living alone and his back legs are wonky he gets carried around a lot. Last Sunday he went visiting with us, then to the garden centre where he picked himself a dog toy from the shelf. The staff in the pet section were fascinated by his size - I think they only ever see youngsters.
On Thursday he went into school with Kim for a couple of hours, she had been told to take something that meant a lot to her in to General Studies. I get the impression that he made a lot of friends, staff and pupils.
Then tomorrow he's coming to the show with us. He loves the attention he gets at shows. I was going to stop taking him, but it seems a shame when he's so happy there.
I took Zorro, PIrate's brother, to the vet this evening. He's had an ear infection for ages. No symptoms except it smells bad and the vet can see gunk in there. He's had two weeks of Baytril and two weeks of Ronaxon and he still smells. So now we have some ear drops instead. That's going to be fun.
But the other thing that prompted the visit is that he seems to have lost the use of his tail. It flops around, but only really moves from the base. He has weak back legs, but he can still make his way up and down around the ferret cage. We've got some Metacam to try for this. It works for Pirate, but Zorro's problem seems slightly different.
It seems as if Zorro and Pirate are starting to run down now, I can see what's coming and it makes me so sad. I've just looked it up and they're both 2 1/2 on Saturday. Although I know I might have them for several more months, it feels like the beginning of the end.
He can't fit in the cabin!

I've been fretting over my cage of five girls - a couple of weeks ago Raven and Wren were having regular fights, with Wren getting a couple of nasty bites. I even brought Raven and her sister to the show just to get her out of the cage while I wasn't there. I was seriously considering splitting them up into two groups.
Now they're best buddies, like siamese twins! So what happened? Every time I look they're together, curled up asleep, stashing food or shredding paper.
It's so like the kids and their friendships when they were little.
